Steam & Moorland Garden Centre

Steam & Moorland Garden Centre

Building Link Design were approached to develop a previously approved scheme for Steam & Moorland Garden Centre in Pickering, North Yorkshire. The scope of works was to produce a new two storey entrance block in between the existing garden centre and lawn mower centre buildings on the site. Additional retail space was created at ground floor with a new cafe located at first floor. To the rear of the building a balcony area was created to extend the cafe space outside. Large expanses of glazing were used to create a light and open space and to offer views over the garden centre beyond.

The new cafe incorporates a miniature train track running around the perimeter walls at high level. This interesting feature was included as a client request to link to the towns heritage of steam train locomotives to the building.

Working closely with Pacy & Wheatley; Building Link produced building regulation & construction drawings to form this unique structure. Pre-commencement planning conditions were also negotiated prior to a start on site for this project.
