Chesterfield Town center apartments

This project was commissioned by Cavendish House Estates and was completed in September 2012, this project consisted of the conversion of former offices across two upper floors into ten 1 bedroom apartments. Located in the heart of Chesterfield, in a conservation area and over 100 years old, the curved building represented a challenge to design and construct. Several technical issues were encountered prior to and during the construction process. Sound issues from the town centre and the poor energy performance of the structure led to secondary glazing and insulation lining to external walls, in addition to sound measures between apartments. The drainage was a challenge to design given the complex nature of the existing building and the supply of services required careful thought for both practical installation and end users. BLD were involved with the project from inception to completion, including acting as project manager and contract administrator on behalf of the client during the construction phase. The finished project represents an efficient and practical use of prime town centre space, introducing residents back into this area of the town centre and proving a great success for the client.
