Hill House School

Hill House School

The proposed development aimed to create a broad variety of spaces and accommodation to fulfill its role as a six form facility. Although ancillary to the main school it has now enhanced and complimented the school beyond the clients initial aspirations.

It was decided that the existing sports pavilion would under go a major extension by extending two stories over the existing pavilion and then a three story wing was to be built perpendicular to the side.

The accommodation comprises a main entrance foyer that allows the occupier to view all floors of the building through an atrium feature including provision of a glazed lift providing the entrance with a open and welcoming feeling. This sets the tone for the rest of the unique features this building has to offer.

The first floor provides education facilities for the higher education students. These facilities are modern teaching rooms and individual music rooms that allow for one to one education. Also within the music wing is the schools own music recording studio.

Finally the second floor is the recreational area for the students along with a dance studio. The second floor was designed to allow students to continue their self studies in a relaxed environment. This area has been designed to be open, inviting and relaxing with ample natural daylight from both the roof lights and the large gable feature windows that are located at each end of the building. At the centre of the common room is a covered balcony that is accessible by the students to view the schools recreational ground that is used for rugby and cricket.

Guidance from various Sound and Fire consultants were taken and early advice from Building Control allowed this build to be constructed within a 20 week programme with minimal disruption to the school.
