Canon Popham C of E Primary School

Building Link Design were appointed to embark on an instrumental project at The Canon Popham Primary School in Doncaster. This particular development involved the erection of a front extension and an additional canopy to the existing year 1 classroom.

The extension at the school in Edenthorpe creates an open space for the children to enjoy and has doubled the size of the classroom itself. The contemporary canopy provides a sheltered outdoor area to the rear of the classroom, incorporating a supplemental area for outdoor learning to take place. Building Link design assisted the client in creating additional space throughout the development to facilitate the needs of disabled children, including larger door openings and alterations to corridors.

Working closely with the contractors, the design team were able to deliver the project in an undoubtedly short time scale of just seven weeks; with the added pressure of completing the works over the summer period and ultimately enabling the year 1 children to return to school to enjoy the new facilities. This being the case, through guidance from BLD, the clients made the decision to run both planning and building regulations simultaneously in order to speed up the process.

Overall, the project was successfully delivered to the client’s specific time scale and the children of Canon Popham School are thrilled with their new classroom facilities.
