Grade II Listed Barn Conversion, Braithwaite, Doncaster

Building Link Design was commissioned to review the planning permission granted for the conversion of a Grade II Listed Barn in Braithwaite, Doncaster. Having just purchased the barn, our clients requested a re-design of the consented layout to suit their family needs, as well as assisting them in discharging the pre-commencement planning conditions attached to the planning and listed buildings approval notices.

Building Link Design worked closely with local authority conservation officers to ensure traditional materials, such as lime render and modern improvements like the conservation style roof lights were selected to repurpose this building whilst retaining an element of historic authenticity.

The building structure needed review with an amount of damage visible to the barn’s exterior from many years of neglect and through its previous agricultural use. This included the need to re-roof the barn, rectify structural cracking in the gable wall, re-pointing the brickwork and removing inappropriate steel beams and materials not in-keeping with a building of this historic nature.

Working alongside Structural Engineers we assisted in finding workable solutions that safeguarded the buildings future which were in keeping with conservation requirements imposed on the building. We liaised with building control on behalf of our clients to ensure the change of use to the building was safe, viable and conformed to the required statutory regulations and approvals.
